Celebrating Robert Burns birthday 25 January 1759. Dr. Kenneth Munro, PhD, Professor Emeritus, graduated from the University of Ottawa and moved to Edmonton in 1972 to begin academic research and teaching at the University of Alberta in the Department of History, Classics and Religion. His expertise and research interests have included Canadian and French Canadian history, the Canadian Crown, Canadian politics, as well as Scottish political history. This background led to writing and editing many related books, publications, and articles, including two books on Edmonton and Alberta. Ken was able to experience politics firsthand when in the early 1980’s, he took a three-year leave of absence to become an Executive Assistant and Advisor to one of the ministers in the Pierre Trudeau government in Ottawa. Today, Ken is retired but is still involved in several Edmonton community organizations including the Sir Winston Churchill Society, the Royal Overseas League, and the Monarchist Society of Canada. Of more importance and relevance to our 2023 annual Rotary Club Robert Burns luncheon, he is an avid follower of the history and written works of Robert Burns. Ken is a longstanding member of the Edmonton Burns Club for which he served as President in 1999.
