Join RI President Jennifer Jones in Toronto!
On July 5, Rotary International President Jennifer Jones will be in Canada's largest city to showcase the impact of Rotary's many projects and partnerships. This includes the Great Lakes Watershed Cleanup, a multi-district Rotary project, and Rotary's partnership with Kids Against Hunger Canada on a food packing initiative that engages community members to address hunger in Canada and around the world. President Jennifer will close out the day with a fun-filled Imagine Rotary BBQ hosted at the Toronto Botanical Garden. She can't wait to to celebrate with you!
 
Note: The main locations for all three events below are in District 7070, but participation from all four hub districts (7010, 7070, 7080, 7090) is encouraged! Satellite events are being planned for people in those districts for whom travel to Toronto is not possible.

Where will the main food-packing event take place?

There will be two shifts, 12 until 2pm with Pizza being served at 1:30.

How many meal kits will be packed on July 5th ?

In recognition of Rotary's 117 birthday, the goal is to pack 117,000 meal kits on July 5th.  We plan to pack 52,000 at the main event in Toronto  and 65,000 across the satellite events as follows:  

  • Belleville: 20,000
  • Barrie: 15,000
  • Burlington:  15,000
  • North Bay: 15,000

After the meal kits are packed at each location, they will be forwarded to Peterborough and then shipped to Indigenous communities in Northern Ontario with whom Kids Against Hunger Canada works in partnership.
 

How many volunteers are required at the main food packing event in Toronto?

A total of 224 volunteers will be required to pack at the Toronto event.  Volunteers  for the main event will be sourced from Rotary/Rotaract/Interact clubs in District 7070.  Districts 7010, 7080, and 7090 will each have their own food packing event, with volunteers sourced from each respective district.   
 

What time should I arrive at the main event?

There will be two 2-hours shift at the main event. The first will run from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. The second from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Volunteers need only register/stay for one of the two shifts.

Where should I park?

Click here for a parking map for the Humber Lakeshore Campus 3199 Lakeshore Boul. West Etobicoke. The food packing event will be in Building G, If at all possible, please car pool, take public transit, or arrive using a taxi/ride share. 50 spots have been reserved at the embassy hall parking lot on your left-hand side as you drive in Colonel Sameual Park Drive parking.
There will also be parking available at 65 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive. This is a six minute walk back to building G where the packing is being done. There will be a shuttle running back-and-forth from this parking lot if you require assistance PLEASE CALL John Whin Cup 416-576-5505

Will I have an opportunity to talk to President Jennifer Jones?

President Jennifer will mingle with volunteers as much as she can. The time she can spend with each volunteer will be impacted by the large number of volunteers at the event, her own food packing efforts, and media appearances.       

What time will  President Jennifer be formally addressing the volunteers? 

Jennifer will speak to all volunteers at 1:45 pm (between the two shifts).

Will water or food be available for volunteers?

Water and food will be available for volunteers. Pizza will be served at 1:30 or so. 
 

Why is registration for the main event limited to members from D7070?

The food that will be packed at this event is being purchased through donations by the clubs within D7070.  Districts 7010, 7080 and 7090 will each have their Kids Against Hunger food packing events on July 5th. The clubs within each district will fund their district's food packing event. See below for more information about satellite food-packing events.
