Poinsettias for Care Homes!
Hello Rotarians of Brantford Sunrise!
We’re approaching poinsettia season.
Last year, during one of the covid -19 lockdowns, the Rotary Club of Brantford Sunrise rose to the occasion and delivered poinsettias to long-term care homes throughout our fantastic community. We did this in hope of keeping the spirits of our family and friends elevated as being alone during the holiday season can be a challenge for some. A Poinsettia is one of those symbols that remind us that the holiday season is here and celebrating with our friends and family is long overdue.
It’s that time of year as the Hands-On Committee is preparing to build upon last years success. Along with the delivery of poinsettias to long-term care homes, Brantford Sunrise members have the opportunity to buy one/donate one. Last year we had 14 stellar members purchase poinsettias and donate one. This year we’re hoping to increase that number by…. a lot…. How’s that for a goal?
Poinsettias are $17 each and we are purchasing them from Walter’s Greenhouse. We’ll have red, pink and white ones and if you’re really nice (Hello Santa), you can specify your desired color.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this request. The more poinsettias distributed, the more joyful the season will be for those who need to spend it away from the ones they love.
Yours Truly,
The Hands-On Committee
History of the Poinsettia
The poinsettia is a commercially important plant species of the diverse spurge family. Indigenous to Mexico and Central America, the poinsettia was first described by Europeans in 1834. It is particularly well known for its red and green foliage and is widely used in Christmas floral displays
